Troubleshooting Cable Networks

2020-04-02T09:57:28-04:00August 22nd, 2013|

CED Presents an Educational Webcast Troubleshooting Cable Networks - Understanding Ingress Impairments Brady Volpe will be a panelist on: "The two-way nature of cable networks is being increasingly exploited for innovative new features and services, including interactive TV applications, video conferencing, data back up, and wireless backhaul (all in addition to high speed data, VoIP, and Internet TV). DOCSIS PNM - Get Excited! Awhile back I wrote an article about DOCSIS Proactive Network Maintenance (PNM).  Not only did I find this technology fascinating I decided to really get involved with PNM.  I will also be speaking at SCTE EXPO on the topic of PNM this year.  Topic: DOCSIS Pre-Equalization: Vastly Powerful, Often Undervalued For those of you who have not heard of PNM, here are the highlights.  DOCSIS Proactive Network Maintenance (PNM) developed by InGeNeOs™ under Cablelabs®.   It is one of the coolest technologies I've been involved

A Briefer History of CableTV For those in the know... A briefer history of CableTV provides an abridged version of how we got to where we are now and CableTVs impact on modern-day test equipment.  Looking at the history of CableTV, its beginnings were very humble with many taking credit for its first invention.  Let us not delve into those disputes, but look towards where CableTV really started to emerge in the mainstream. It was not until 1947, post WWII when TV began to start getting momentum with

DOCSIS Channel Emulator – Impairments Made Easy

2013-07-22T09:00:55-04:00July 22nd, 2013|

DOCSIS Channel Emulator - Impairments Made Easy by Averna While at ANGACOM this year I came across Averna's DOCSIS Channel Emulator (DCE).  It's an interesting product that can be put to good use in an MSO lab, vendor lab or anyone needing to create real-world impairments that impact DOCSIS.  Intrigued by the product, I followed up with Averna and got a hands-on demonstration at Averna's Atlanta office. Averna's DOCSIS Channel Emulator - What's Good... So first, if you are doing DOCSIS testing, it is likely that you have

DOCSIS Reed-Solomon Codewords

2013-03-10T20:01:38-04:00March 10th, 2013|

How many bytes can a Reed-Solomon codeword bite? In my previous article on DOCSIS Codeword Errors, reader "Sandy" asked how many Reed-Solomon codewords would be required to transport a 1518 byte length of data?  This is a very good question and one that I had never considered until I first faced when designing DOCSIS data-layer models in MATLAB.  In the example I used in my previous article I chose a word that was 16 bytes long.  I did this because it made it easy to draw an 8x8
