Nothing Like Free! – Great DOCSIS Config File Editor from Excentis

Thanks to Excentis, a leading and solid provider of highly specialized testing, consultancy and training services for access network technologies(cable, xDSL, wireless, etc) and related services (e.g. VoIP and iDTV), we can all have a free DOCSIS Config File Editor.

I am fortunate to use a DOCSIS config file editor built into my lab provisioning system provided by Incognito’s Broadband Command Center which is outstanding! However many people do have access to this, at least not on their desktop. Excentis is providing, free of charge, a DOCSIS config file editor that is quite powerful and from what I can tell meets any need up to and including DOCSIS 3.0.
Here are the main features from their website:

  • it’s free of charge
  • easy to use GUI
  • support for all (Euro)DOCSIS 1.0, 1.1, 2.0 and 3.0 config file TLVs
  • support for both binary and textual files
  • platform independent
  • TLV tree representation which orders by optional/required Encodings and DOCSIS version, showing an instant view of the TLVs a certain type of modem will ‘see’ of the config file.
  • the ability to configure both the Shared Secret and the Extended Shared Secret for CMTS MIC calculation.
  • lots of build-in checks to verify the validity of your configuration
  • the unique ‘cheat’ mode allows you to create non-specification-conformant config files for testing purposes.
  • the context-sensitive help screen assist you with every TLV an subTLV
  • the extensive manual provides additional help where needed.

All you need to do is go to the Excentis page and provide your contact information and a valid email address to download the file.
