Advanced Analytics 1 of 3: Cable and “Digital Twins”

    Description

“NASA gets most of the credit for coining the term “digital twin” for its work to better simulate, on the ground, what’s happening up in space. These days, the concept makes so much sense – to make virtual representations of things, so they can “stand in” for physical objects or processes – that everybody’s doing it. Including us. This first of three workshops about operations and advanced analytics, moderated by Yvette Kanouff, will cover how machine learning is transforming operations, and where we are with digital twins. Brady Volpe kicks it off with a look at how Proactive Network Management (PNM) is reaping the benefits of machine learning, especially in terms of operational efficiencies. Next, Guy Meador, a Sr. Solutions Architect, will explain how network digital twins can digitally represent the cable plant by combining disparate data sources like telemetry, monitoring, inventory, provisioning, and analytics. He’ll also reveal how Cox is applying some aspects of digital twinning to its data center network.”

New Tricks in Proactive Network Maintenance – Like Finding Water in Drop Cables (Before it Impacts Customers). What!?

“Proactive Network Maintenance is an Expo mainstay, and this year’s workshop won’t disappoint.  Why, because it is not now being applied to detect water in coaxial cables – a perennial industry problem – and to assess RF impairments in OFDM and ODFMA channels.  Comcast’s VP of Field Operations Kathy Fox kicks off the session (be sure to check out the long list of venerable co-authors with her) with details about how an adaptation of PNM standing wave spectral impairment detection can remotely identify and locate water-soaked cables.  Next, Brady Volpe provides a readout of how much bandwidth can be recovered by using PMA to mitigate RF impairments in OFDM / OFDMA channels.”
