Downstream Full Band Capture and CableLabs Winter Conference review

Episode 10 Hosted by Brady Volpe of the Volpe Firm and Nimble This with guest John Downey of Cisco.  Brady and John cover the Downstream Full Band Capture, CableLabs Winter Conference, the press release from Broadcom and upstream expansion to 85 MHz and beyond.

If you have not heard about Broadcom’s press release on upstream analysis capability in the cable modem you will defiantly want to check out this video.  Having downstream full band capture in the cable modem is extremely powerful for identifying RF ingress in the return path.  Downstream Full Band Capture gives the cable operator the ability to have a spectrum analyzer in the subscribers home.  Being able to identify issues before rolling a truck to the subscribers home.

The guys also discussed some of the challenges and issue in expanding the return path to 85 MHz and beyond to increase upstream DOCSIS speeds, especially in preparation for DOCSIS 3.1.  If you haven’t heard of Downstream Full Band Capture you will want to watch or listen to this episode.
